Welding Training Program Outlines

GENERAL WELDING AND PIPE WELDING TRAINING COURSES

LJP Skills offers a variety of welding training as well as other programs to address specific needs of students and employers. If you don’t see what you need detailed below, please contact us at info@ljpskills.ca and we will try and put together a program specifically for you.

All welding courses will be completed at our welding college located in Guelph.

Program Pre-requisites:
The four welding programs detailed below require a Ontario Secondary School Diploma or successful completion of a basic skills math test (administered at LJP Skills’ offices).

Equipment Requirements:
Students will provide personal safety equipment including welding helmet, protective wear and safety boots. LJP Skills will provide welding gloves and safety glasses. Some tools may be required depending on the program selected.

High School Credits:
Students may earn up to 8 high school credits while participating in the 23 week general Welding Skills, the 20 week Pipe Welding Skills or the 26 week Professional Pipe Plus courses. Original student transcripts must be available for evaluation.

A) GENERAL WELDING SKILLS

23 Weeks

Outline:
This program combines practical, hands-on experience with classroom work in welding theory and blueprint reading. Instruction covers the following key areas:

  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) in the flat position to Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) standard
  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) flat, horizontal and vertical to CWB standards
  • Pending completion of above, students may also train on Flux-cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) machines.
  • Comprehensive blueprint reading course (Text: Blueprint Reading for Welders)
  • Welding Theory
  • Technical math upgrading and resume development/job search assistance.
  • CWB Certification tests in GMAW flat, SMAW flat, horizontal and vertical are included.

B) PIPE WELDING

20 Weeks

Outline:
Practical hands-on training. Students complete a blueprint reading component as an independent study. Three key areas of study are covered:

  • Introduction to SMAW welding in all positions
  • GTAW & SMAW: Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) open root passes, E7018 fill and caps
  • SMAW: E6010/E6011 open root passes, E7018 fill and caps
  • Two Pipe Welding Tests included
  • Technical math upgrading and resume development/job search assistance available.

C) PROFESSIONAL PIPE PLUS

26 Weeks

Outline:
This program focuses on the development of pipe welding skills and is designed for individual’s without previous welding experience. In addition to the following pipe welding skills, a unit on GMAW on steel and GTAW on aluminum will also be provided. Pipe welding skills include:

  • Introduction to SMAW welding in all positions
  • GTAW & SMAW: TIG open root passes, E7018 fill and caps
  • E6010 Open root passes, E7018 fill and caps
  • Stainless Steel open root GTAW
  • 3 Pipe welding ticket tests included (must weld to standard to obtain tickets).
  • Technical math upgrading and resume development/job search assistance available.

D) PIPE WELDING FOR WELDERS

10 Weeks

Program Pre-requisite: Students must possess all-position SMAW (stick) capabilities. Skills to CWB standards not required.

Outline:
This program is 100% hands on and delivered in two parts:

  • Part One (5 weeks):
    GTAW and SMAW: TIG open root passes, E7018 fill and caps
  • Part Two (5 weeks):
    SMAW: E6010 & SMAW open root passes, E7018 fill and caps
